Prince of Wales' Visit to Penang (1922)

Exactly 98 years ago today, the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor) travelled on the H.M.S Renown which was anchored in the Penang Channel.

His Majesty was on his return trip after visiting Japan and other states as part of his World tour.  He landed at Victoria Jetty on 23.5.1922, was driven to Downing St., then driven around the Esplanade, then through Leith St. into Penang Rd., then all the way through Macalister Rd. to Western Rd. and then to Residency Rd. where he stopped at Government House for a game of tennis before adjourning to the Penang Club for lunch.  This official film of His Majesty's World tour shows his motorcade past people lining sides of buildings and streets to greet him during his short visit to Penang.
